{"id":19210,"date":"2021-09-09T21:00:31","date_gmt":"2021-09-09T21:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.esecurityplanet.com\/?p=19210"},"modified":"2021-09-09T21:09:47","modified_gmt":"2021-09-09T21:09:47","slug":"hackers-leak-87000-fortinet-vpn-passwords","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.esecurityplanet.com\/threats\/hackers-leak-87000-fortinet-vpn-passwords\/","title":{"rendered":"Hackers Leak 87,000 Fortinet VPN Passwords"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the latest lesson about the importance of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esecurityplanet.com\/products\/patch-management-software\/\">patching<\/a>, the credentials for 87,000 Fortinet FortiGate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esecurityplanet.com\/products\/enterprise-vpn-solutions\/\">VPNs<\/a> have been posted on a dark web forum by hackers.<\/p>\n<p>Fortinet confirmed the veracity of the hackers&#8217; claims in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fortinet.com\/blog\/psirt-blogs\/malicious-actor-discloses-fortigate-ssl-vpn-credentials\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blog post<\/a> today. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esecurityplanet.com\/products\/best-network-security-tools\/\">network security<\/a> vendor said the credentials were stolen from systems that remain unpatched against a two-year-old vulnerability &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/cve.mitre.org\/cgi-bin\/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2018-13379\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CVE-2018-13379<\/a> &#8211; or from users who patched that vulnerability but failed to change passwords.<\/p>\n<p>Fortinet said it&#8217;s warned customers several times to update affected devices and reset passwords &#8211; and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esecurityplanet.com\/products\/vulnerability-management-software\/\">vulnerability<\/a> was even recently named <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esecurityplanet.com\/threats\/fbi-cisa-most-exploited-vulnerabilities\/\">one of the most exploited<\/a> by the FBI and CISA.
